I only have limited experience with the Kool-glide.. All I know is the staples under the tape causes fires.. As for the teflon piece, I'm not sure.. I've seen it used but haven't used it myself..

I know a clothing iron will work to remove old seam tape.

Not sure if the cool glide will?

I do like the idea of one.

I don't do enough repairs to matter.

Kool-Glide is good for sections or door seams where pulling a gooey iron out from under the carpet can get messy. Regular iron is faster, and you can get better (or cheaper) tape.

I use a kool glide often. The tape is too thin to do a major seam. Its great for small repairs.

I've always used the Kool Glide tape right on top of the carpet pad. Been doing it like that for over 15 years.
