I have given a great deal of thought to the end of
JonDon, at least as we've known them.
The fact is, I might not be in business now if
JonDon hadn't been my competitor:
To compete with
JonDon, I needed to have free shipping for orders of a certain size. For a while, I tried to make it just chemicals, but they included a number of other parts and accessories, so I did it too.
I also needed to get orders out the same day, even if they were called in later in the afternoon. When it came to equipment sales, their sales people knew the product, and were not just aggressive in closing the sale, but they also had terrific after sale service.
And, at the time, my people had to be great on the phone, or I needed to field the calls myself.
Their trainers were the industry's best as well.
So I think that over the decades that I competed with them, they made me be my best at customer service, product availability and delivery, sales ability, and after sales service.
To be fair, all of the above statements are made about the Original "Nick and Jon"
JonDon.
Today other people keep me on my toes, but to this day, the one person who is the biggest problem to my business remains.....
....me.
When I get past all of the roadblocks that that ugly aging mug that looks back at me in the mirror each day, I'll worry about "the other guy"
Still, the best "other guy" I have ever competed with, was
JonDon.
