Questions about thermal relief valve

What is the point of the thing? I read it is to protect the pressure pump from too hot of water coming into it, but the relief valve is after the pressure pump on the discharge side of the system. And it is rated for 165 degrees which doesn't make sense. My heat gets way over 200 degrees so theoretically it should be discharging water into the waste tank all the time...

You should have a relief valve on that gray water box. And the temp of the water in that box should be 90-125 on average before it enters your water pump

My waste tank keeps filling up rapidly today. Not sure what is going on. I suppose a relief valve is stuck open and dumping water into our waste tank. It did it on my first job and now also on this second job. But this second job is all natural fiber upholstery and we have the main heat exchanger bypassed, so only the Salsa is running and we're probably only at 150 degrees or something.

The only thing I can think of is the 165 degree thermal relief valve near the pressure regulator is stuck open, a hose leads from that directly to the waste tank. not sure why I am not losing pressure with that thing wide open, if it is. I'll try clamping that hose shut and see if it stops water from dumping into my waste tank. I just ordered a new thermal relief valve. I hope thats it.

I'm not sure what to make of it. This line in the picture is hot, so it seems there is a lot of water flowing through it back to the water box. I don't think there is a thermal relief valve on that cluster of fittings.

The thermal relief valve by the pressure regulator, that hose going to the waste tank from it is cool. Seems like nothing is flowing through it. So why would too much water be flowing through this relief going back to the water box? It is the cluster of fittings behind my solution line outlet off the machine. It T's and one side goes to the solution line outlet, and the other side goes through that small diameter pressure line to the bottom of the water box...
